Leland Blue Pendant
What a gorgeous Leland Blue this is! It's a darker teal blue with a lovely polish. I made it the focal point in this unique sterling silver pendant necklace. Leland Blue is a great “recycled” material from northern Michigan. It is actually glass slag, the byproduct from smelting iron ore. The slag was dumped into Lake Michigan in the late 1800s. This pendant really makes a beautiful statement and is completely one of a kind.
SETTING: It has a fine silver and sterling bezel setting that I soldered to a hammered horizontal strip of sterling. The strip is attached on either end to a length of sterling discs chain, which closes in the back with a solid sterling lobster clasp.
SIZE: This stone is 40mm x 25mm (1 9/16" x 1") and the necklace, including the strip of sterling, is about 21" long.
FINISH: I gave the silver an oxidized patina, which makes a beautiful backdrop for this stone.
