Welcome!

I’m Carla, the designer and maker behind Le Chien Noir Jewelry. Here, you'll find well-made, bold, one-of-a-kind jewelry for unique women like you. My jewelry makes a statement, while being easy-to-wear and versatile. The gorgeous gems and metals I use are ethically sourced and/or recycled. I aim to create little works of art you can enjoy for years to come.

For many years, I was a writer and editor. But I always longed to get back to jewelry-making, since falling hard for it in my first class years ago. When I was 52, I enrolled in some courses, picked up my torch and hammers again, and stepped into my full-time jewelry dream. That was 14 years ago and I have to say I highly recommend following your dreams!

Much of my inspiration comes from the nature around me, here in rural Quebec. I live in an old farmhouse a few miles from a tiny village on a huge lake. People here are about half French-/half English-speaking, which I love. I live with my two dogs, my cat and my chickens. I have a huge vegetable garden, which I have to protect from the many deer around. One of my biggest joys and sources of inspiration is my daily dog walk through the woods behind my house, or along the dirt road I live on. It clears my head and allows me to absorb the stunning life, texture and colour in the forest. Somehow, it seems to distill down to new design ideas. 

I also love that I get to connect with you, my lovely customers, who enjoy my work and get the intention and care I put into it. I appreciate you more than you know!
